Agia reckons she controls him, and it seems a fair assessment.  Of course, he may be happy enough with his side of the bargain.
As for his name, he is clearly mad and his shipmates referred to him as a “header” or head case.  Due to a period of imposed political correctness, perhaps in the Machine Era, such names are no longer used.
