How do we know that Pas is not improved in some way? Pas is certainly
spoken of in more appealing terms in SS than in LS. But think what Silk
must provide are the more basic physically-oriented mental processes
that need an "source" doner to work. This assumes that Wolfe was putting
so much thought into the hard SF of the story rather than the Fantasy
and literary elements of the tale.
