Or, Jordan, as is commonly supposed, the creation story of the bible is an amalgamation of at least two different sources, one of which is babylonian (ie - its just a retelling of another old myth - what makes the older one any truer?)  The bible has disparate sources, too.

Considering the Epic of Gilgamesh gives the story of Utnapishtim and a global flood far older than the old testament, and yet very similar in detail, I'd say it's something that goes beyond biblical veracity and just into probable ancient history.
