I interpret this as a cheating ADOPTED parents answer by wolfe - his mother was the calde's mistress, that's why she kept his bust in the closet.  Silk has two sets of parents, Tussah, his mother, Typhon, and Mamelta, who appear while he is, I believe, buried under a falling wall or fallen or something when the jail falls.
