Events along your future timeline can throw echos into the past. For me, I
had hallucinations from a very early age (many years before reading
TBOTNS) that aliens would take me off the planet, and test me somehow, and
if I failed the test I would be castrated. So you can imagine that when I
read this theme in TBOTNS I was sort of blown away, and from that point
was looking for an opportunity to talk to Wolfe.

Also our ideas about parallel worlds are very similar, and also similar to
Borges, who I had not heard of at that time (Gene Wolfe was the first
person who mentioned the name Jorge Luis Borges to me).

Anyway, it's late and I don't have huge amounts of energy right now.
