One more thing about Ian Mersey: Liverpool is a major port on the Mersey 
River in England. Just after Ian smuggles him out of the building, Chase 
starts singing about a "Liverpool ship with a Liverpool crew" (p. 101).

It seems like Cassie attracts people into her life with mysterious 
secrets faster than the heroine of "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" 
(who does possess the power to warp reality). Does Cassie's latent 
talent have something to do with this?

Gideon Chase -- wizard, loved her for years.
Bill Reis -- instantly prepared to pull elaborate scheme involving 
bracelets and plays, falls for her.
Ian Mersey -- Chase's friend/accomplice. Very strong. Possible time 
traveler.
Vince Palma -- natural for playing the Volcano God, may have secret 
knowledge or powers.
Norma -- possible ex-wife of Reis, but allows Cassie to think she means 
Vince.
Donny -- possible Cthulhu cultist, possible assassin.
Margaret -- time-traveler, temporal clone, werewolf (but this one is no 
coincidence).
