Incidentally, you might have better luck talking about the Reconquista, in
which the Spanish were indeed fighting for their captured land.  Though it
happens alongside the crusades, it's seldom referred to by that term, and I
certainly didn't intend it above.
(It seems I'll have to be careful about precisely what I do not say)
