As has been stated elsewhere, Gideon is (or pretends to be) the sort
of pulp hero that kids of all ages love - he's dashing, he's
mysterious, he has a cool car. He's like Batman or the Shadow. It's
odd how nostalgic a book ostensibly set in the future is.
Are there any interviews where Wolfe talks much about his childhood
reading? You can infer a lot from his books (Oz, the pulps, etc.), but
I'd love to see some sort of list.
