Someone out there must understand the relationships, both in symbol,
and, where applicable, in plot, among the Squid God, the Most Low
God,
Well, No. 5, at least, is the Antichrist, as his address (666 Street of
the Counterfeit) indicates. Or some future clone is. "Some day
they'll want us." Cloning prevents the future. "We don't
progress." It just reinforces all that is bad in the present. It's
anti-eschatological.

The Ayuntiamento are the Scribes and Pharisees, who have taken over, and
don't want Silk to come and bring Outsider News.

That much at least. It is safe to say that Wolfe's "devil
theory" is going to be the various aspects and manifestations we see
in the Bible, often presented in Lupine reworks of mythology. Hence:
Fallen Archangel, Sea Beast, Antichrist, Man of Sin, Scribes &
Pharisees, Pharaoh, etc. reworked into Persian or Lovecraftian or
whatever terms and then looped by the Lupe.
