thought it was good, but not Wolfe-good, with evolving characters 

and discovered worlds, like 'Golden City Far' or 'The Tree is my Hat' 

or a few dozen others.  If there was more to the story, hidden references 

or whatever, I missed it.  I guessed the ending early and kept reading 

hoping I was wrong.  I wasn't.</FONT></DIV>

merely good story from the master is somewhat
