Did Wolfe ever visit Cambridge (UK)?

The Garden of Everlasting Sleep (I.22) is reminiscent (to me) of the 
fens around Cambridge (flat-bottomed punts; peat bog). The Botanic 
Garden is likewise reminiscent of the real Cambridge University Botanic 
Garden in some specific details: the "jungle room" of the real one does 
have a serpentine path that, unlike those in other rooms, has different 
exit and entrance doors. I've never noticed a hut, though.
