I don't think the geography is more like hell than any atmospheric
warming, post nuclear war society would be, but I agree with the hansel
and gretel resonance... Wolfe has echoed that tale in at least two other
short stories ("in the house of gingerbread" and I think "the little
stranger") but those ones had witches. This one only has the oven itself.
