Another image that has bothered me is the way Cedar Branches Waving , the mother, is described as deflated and empty after the births, and the way that lack of food and success in the hint  is called empty days, coupled with the way seven girls waiting is so insistent that even though she has not eaten she still has milk as if it is what will decide her fate. 

Empty and deflated just doesn't seem like typical birthing terms, nor an infant shooting out and stomping on the ground before anyone notices, not even entirely anthropomorphic.
