Marc, I understand your qualms about Jonah's moral unsuitability. But the program is hardly going out on a limb here, as this comparison has a long history. Heck, it's even in the Bible, apparently in Christ's own words:
"An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly, so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth" (Matthew 12:40)
