But we barely see Paul at all, and the story is entirely told from the father's point of view, I think that's plenty of an indication as to whom Wolfe identified with more. Also, Paul doesn't come across as disoriented to me. Ill-prepared, possibly, but he's still significantly more prepared than his parents.
