That's not my position, at least--as I said earlier, I think Wolfe is a
good enough writer that you don't need to agree with his political leanings
(which are generally understated, and much more complex than bald
conservatism) to appreciate him. But while I often come across statements
that disagree with me almost on a visceral level in my reading, this is the
first time in a while that it's happened with a writer that I love and
respect as much as Wolfe. And when it's something like this, which
connects with my daily life, it is hard to bracket myself out of the
equation. I doubt I'm the only one in this position. Whatever...I'm still
enjoying the book.
