For what it's worth (not much in my opinion) The Circus of Dr. Lao was made into a film, released in 1964, called 7 Faces of Dr. Lao, starring Tony Randall of all people. A very loose adaptation, and not at all successful in my opinion, though some people seem to like it. You can get it on Netflix etc.
