So he is not so much a type of Christ, but a "type" of Redeemer / Savior.  One might as well say that Severian is a type of Krishna, or Zoroaster, or any of the other historical figures that fit into the heroic savior archetype.  
 
yet the names, the theological discussions, the pictures with halos and all out of the old books, are based off a very particular religion and intimately associated with the conciliator. It doesn't seeem very hindu.
