Heh. Thanks for remembering that James. Yeah, I was familiar with the Silenus and
Dionysus connection but the silent/silver thing got me motivated to dig a little
and find Silvanus.

>David Stockhoff: I don't think even Lee thinks Wolfe is secretly gnostic.

Heh. "Even" me? What does this mean? Perhaps there is a mistaken impression that I
think the gnostic underpinnings of the Sun Series is the "real" story or something
like that. Nothing could be further from the truth; a point I might wish to make
to Sergei, especially.

Often someone or something complex is analogized as an onion, and we are therefore
supposed to peel back the layers. I think it is a good analogy and a mistake often
attributed to it is that the deeper laters of a person or thing are the "real" parts.
The truest parts. Whatever.

But the deepest layers of an onion are not more real or true or necessary than the
more superficial layers. The same is true about people and works of art, imho. An
author adds depth and richness to his/her work by creating at multiple levels so I
don't see why the audience perceiving and appreciating those levels should be seen
as debasing it.

(p.s. on the Pig dialect thing, I asked if it was some sort of British accent and
I can see why James would want to soften his assessment to less than definite in
guessing Scottish. Just trying to avoid an argument over something pointless. I
myself am terrible at identifying various British dialects. Heck, even Australians
and (white) South Africans sound British to me, half the time)
