Exactly. You'd think the reviewer would have checked this before blogging, since he makes a point of it. Instead, he assumes all his assumptions are fact.
Also, the sun is not a red giant in Severian's day, although I certainly assumed so on first reading, until it was explained.

This is the section which bothered me the most. Seems to ignore the possibility that The
Whorl was created and sent during the heyday of the First Empire and misses the rather
explicitly explained idea that the sun was reduced in intensity rather rapidly, and likely 
on purpose, at the end of this Empire.
