That's a great insight.

Maybe this gives a triple meaning to the name--"Father" suggests the
politically involved churchmen of Byzantium; "inire" suggests an initiate of
a Gnostic sect or Greek mystery cult, but at the root he is "Fenrir,"
sharing with Abaia et al. the name of an ancient monster that describes his
function.  It's easy to hyperbolize when discussing Wolfe's writing, but if
you've nailed his intent that's a really nice bit of writing.
