I would add that, like Severian, Horn in the Sewer on Green is, like Severian, not only
armed with a sword but a light.
Other than that, Marc, I think you have nailed it to a T. What more needs to be said?
We could note the similarities to Bilbo, Frodo and Sam with the sword and light (which may
refer back to other legends).
We could (and have) talk about the Labors of Hercules and the Augean Stables and how Severian
resembles that Greek hero. But, that's just window dressing on the main theme that you have
recognized.
