Well, let's see. I just voted for a tax increase. I have helped elect people who raised taxes, because they said they would raise taxes. As a result, I will pay more taxes. I want to pay more taxes.

Why? Because it's a deal. Because my city is broke. Because I believe in the public good. Because I'm not rich.

"Consent." It's not just the theme of a teen sci-fi novel.
