Ah, but the lure of vast wealth is a strong motivator. That's why there were pirates on the Spanish Main: because the Spanish shipped gold from west to east. More will take their place, chastened only a little.
I agree that the calculus must be shifted. A lot less chance of success---no more easy money---and a little more risk of serious failure, and the investment banks will sober up.
The regular banks need to be smashed into little pieces.
But those are MY politics.

Yabbut raising taxes on the poor doesn't help either because they
ain't got no money.
I am of the strong opinion that, rather than inviting the CEOs of the
15 biggest banks in the country to the Oval Office and talking to
them, we should simply hang them from lampposts by their own
intestines as a warning to the others. It would be much cheaper and
much more effectual in the long--hell, even the medium--run.
