doxologia, paean or prayer, comes from doxa, glory, splendor, 
brightness, fame, prestige. That's the meaning in koine. In earlier 
attic Greek, doxa meant opinion.

It's not one or the other. It's context. In the Church, doxology 
means "word of praise," and orthodoxy means "correct praise" or 
"correct opinion." The Russian church is called "pravo-slavnie," 
"true praise," or in English "ortho-dox."
