Funny you should float that theory...In the "Paladin of Shadows" series by John Ringo (military-oriented "technothriller"), the main character foils multiple terrorist attacks, destroys a sex-trade ring, starts a military fiefdom in Georgia (the country), has lots of wild sex, etc. Over several books.
 
Early on in the first book, he spots a kidnapping by some terrorists and attempts to foil it by climbing into the wheel wheel of a jumbo jet. So Ringo has said the action that follows might have happened...or it might all be the delusions of the dying main character and when the plane lands in Syria, they're going to be mighty puzzled by the frozen dead guy in the wheel well.
