I agree.  It's a remarkably good movie, and a skillful deconstruction of the 
book. 

However . . . 

I wonder if any one has recorded Wolfe's reaction to the original novel 
STARSHIP TROOPERS??? 

While I don't **like** it as a reading experience, I think Wolfe might have 
been sympathetic with its ideological thrust. 

The whole definition of 
civilians-as-those-who-risk-their-lives-to-defend-the-polis   is straight 
from classical Greek culture and is the foundation of Western civilisation.
