I don't find Wolfe's style pretentious at all, mainly
because it serves his story. Too many writers are (in
my biased opinion, of course) in love with the Word
for its own sake and I feel they are either mistaking
the finger for the moon or covering for their lack of
anything relevant to say. Wolfe, at his simplest, is
saying THINK, which in this day and age is as
worthwhile as anything.
